We have been fortunate enough to be able to get away for each of our anniversaries. For our 9th year, we decided to go back to wine country. We went to San Francisco in 2007, and then I went with the girls last summer, but this time we decided to skip the big city and stick to the Sonoma area. I am so glad we did because it is definitely my happy place!
We left bright and early Thursday morning and flew to San Francisco. We got our rental car and drove to Santa Rosa. Our first stop was Russian River Brewing, and this was probably Matthew's favorite part of the trip. He loves wine, but he really loves craft beer. We sat on the patio for awhile and then drove to Healdsburg. This was my favorite city that we visited with the girls last summer. It is such a small, quaint little town with the cutest little square filled with restaurants, wineries, and shops. We walked around, ate gelato, visited a few tasting rooms, and then got some food to take back to our Bed and Breakfast.

We stayed at the Gables Wine Country Inn and it was perfect. We were in a cute little cottage in the back yard of the main house. The owners were so friendly and made us the best three course breakfasts each morning. They also hosted a wine and cheese night every evening.
Friday morning, Max came to pick us up for a wine tour. We went to Littorai, MacPhail, Iron Horse, and Russian River Vineyards. We also had a great lunch at a farm-to-table restaurant, Zazu. We had a private tour, so it was nice to be at our own pace and go where we wanted. We always enjoy Max and can't wait to go with him again.

Saturday we slept in and then headed back to Healdsburg. We decided to take a little break from drinking, and went to see Gone Girl. Then it was back to eating, shopping, and wine tasting!

Sunday we got up and drove back to the city to catch our flight home. We were so happy to see our sweet kids. We are so thankful that my mom was willing to stay with them so we could get away. We didn't do much, but we had the best time just being together and having uninterrupted conversations. I'm so lucky that I married my best friend and that we truly enjoy being together. Now I'm already planning a big trip for year ten!
