Field Trip

I love that Mason gets to go on field trips this year.  They go on one a month and the moms take turns driving and going to them.  This one was to King Soopers (the local grocery store) and I got to drive Mason and Isaac.  It was nice that Evie was in school, so I could focus just on Mason.
We got to the store and a manager walked us around telling us about everything.  Each kid had a piece of paper and they did a scavenger hunt.  They loved finding things and circling them on the paper.  It was a fun morning!

Waiting patiently until it was time to leave

Super Hero Party

One of Mason's school friends, Isaac, had the best birthday party on Saturday.  The highlight was definitely that Mason got to meet Spidey and SuperMan.  He was in awe!  Such a fun thing to see!

The piƱata was a hit.  Isaac's mom made personalized capes for each guest.  So cute!

Weekend Visitors

Neil and Kristina came to visit us last weekend.  We hadn't seen Neil since we moved to Colorado, and it was so good to finally meet Kristina.  We had a great time shopping, eating, and hanging out.  Mason and Evie loved having them here to play with them!

we had a fun time playing Jenga

They were sweet to come to soccer with us

They both adored Kristina and wanted to be with her constantly!

Mason at Five

I still can't believe I have a five year old.  It just seems so old.  I am so thankful I get this "bonus" year with him before he starts Kindergarten next year.  He is such a joy to be around.  Four was such a fun year with him.  His personality is just the sweetest.  He is the most loving little boy.  I can't keep count of how many times a day he will hug and kiss me and Matthew and tell us how much he loves us.  I hope and pray that he is always this loving!

I can't talk about Mason without talking about him being a big brother.  He is really the best big brother around.  He is so sweet and protective over Evie.  They do have their moments where they argue, but honestly 90% of the time they play so well together.  He reads to her, plays with her, and bosses her around.  :)  He tells her at least twenty times a day that he loves her and she does the same.  I could sit and watch/listen to them play forever.  It really is the sweetest sound in the world and I feel blessed that I get to be their mom.

He is turning into quite the science kid.  He loves reading and learning about rocks, bugs, gardens, and space.  His new classroom has a science center, so that is what I hear the most about.  He told me all about oxidation the other day!  Every night I read him the Pocket Genius book about bugs.  I never thought I would know so much about insects!

He is also still very much in super heroes.  He and Matthew read all sorts of super hero stories before bed and have started watching Spiderman and Iron Man movies.  He is a different super hero every day.  He is also newly into swords, nerf guns, and his bow and arrow.  I have so many blue darts and arrows around this house.  They turn up everywhere!

I have loved watching him learn about Jesus this year.  He is constantly talking about Him and asking questions that sometimes I am amazed by.  We have always prayed before dinner and before bed, but lately I have heard him praying to himself.  Once was when he was trying to get his Nerf gun "cocked" (it is a little tough for him) and he whispered "Dear God, please let me be able to cock this gun."  Then last week before we went to the doctor for his well visit, I heard him in the back of the car saying "Dear God, please don't let me have to get a shot today."  I absolutely love that he knows if he is scared or wants something that he can pray no matter what.

He loves sports and playing outside.  He is so proud that he can swing all by himself.  He is playing so well in soccer this season too.  I would say his favorite is still baseball though.  I love watching the determination he has on the field and how hard he tries.  I hope he always loves playing sports!

He has turned into such a big boy.  He asks me to lay out his clothes every night, and when he wakes up he gets completely dressed and sometimes even makes his bed before coming into my room.  He pretty much bathes completely on his own, brushes and flosses his teeth, and can do a perfect part in his hair.  He is like a little old man getting ready for bed!

We have had very few tantrums this year.  He is still a pretty good whiner when he wants to be, and sometimes doesn't want to listen the first (or fifth) time we ask him to do something, but over all he is a well behaved, well-mannered little boy.

He is still very sensitive and doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.  He got upset awhile ago because I told someone that Evie was a better eater than him.  He took it literally that I thought Evie was "better" than him and he just cried and cried.  He also got his feelings hurt when he overheard me say that he was shy.  I have to watch what I say because he is always listening and always literal!  Sweet boy!

He is scared of the dark.  He has to have his door wide open, two night lights on, his dream lite, and the hall light on to be able to fall asleep.  He wakes up at least once a night and comes in our room to check on us.  He will usually give me a kiss and say I love you, then go get back in bed.  If he goes to Matthew's side of the bed though, he wants Matthew to get up and come tuck him back in.  Glad he lets me stay in bed.  :)

Some favorite foods are: pizza, chick fil a, McDonalds, spaghetti (really any kind of pasta), grapes, strawberries, raspberries, yogurt, applesauce, green beans, chicken, jelly sandwiches, toast, Chinese noodles and Mexican food

I can't wait to see what the next year has in store and to watch him become a big brother for the second time!

Mason's Party Weekend

We loved that we had a full house for Mason's birthday this year.  Mason told me months ago that he wanted a bowling party, so that is exactly what he got!  Thank goodness they did everything because I have been so sick and tired, there was no way I would have been able to put something together.
This is also the first year that I let him pick his cake.  He had an ice cream cake at a friend's party this summer, and he was hooked!  My boy would eat ice cream over cake any day, so this was the best of both worlds.  And of course, it had to be a bowling cake!

I was a little sad that so many of his friends couldn't make it to the party, but having the family here definitely helped.  His three little girlfriends were able to make it.  Makes me laugh what a little ladies' man he is.  I'm sure one day he won't want any girls at his parties!

After bowling, pizza, and cake it was time for the arcade.  Mason loved every second of it!

And just some other pictures from the weekend...

The Aunties will do anything for Mason and Evie.  I'm not sure how many times they had to play this game!

Aunties are the best!

Game Night.  Eric and Jordan are serious about Guess Who!

Aunt B got Mason this cool solar system for his room.  It has a remote control that turns the sun "on" and makes the planets rotate.

Having fun with Uncle Eric

We also managed to fit in a soccer game.  Mason scored 4 goals!

We went and played Putt Putt.  Mason got to do everything on his wish list this weekend!

Evie might just have her first crush on Jordan.  She loved him reading to her and even said "I love you" to him.  So sweet!

And Baby Makes Five

We are so excited to be adding another sweet baby to our family.  We found out on July 5 and have been keeping this secret from our family ever since.  We did break down and tell our close friends though.  I have been sick from the moment I found out.  Sick as in laying on the floor throwing up all day long from about week 4 until week 9.  I am now 13 weeks and starting to feel better most days.  This is so different from the other two, so I am not used to being so useless!  Of course, Matthew has been super dad and taken such good care of us.  It is times like these where it is so hard to not have family close.
We told my parents first on Skype.  I put Evie in a big sister tshirt, and after awhile they finally got it.  We knew that Donna, Caroline, Eric, Sarah, and Jordan would be here for Mason's birthday so we told them in person.  Matthew gave a toast and said how happy we were to have everyone here, congratulated Sarah on her new job, and said we were excited to have another member in the family in the spring.  It took a good minute before anyone got it.  They were really surprised!
Mason doesn't really have much to say about it except that he wants a brother.  Of course we won't find out, so we will have to wait until March to see if he gets his wish!
