A Date Night and a Sick Girl

Evie started running a high fever on Thursday that lasted through Sunday.  She didn't have any other symptoms, but did not feel well and only wanted to be held and go in and out of sleep.  Mason was a pretty good sport on Friday considering I couldn't do much with him while I was taking care of Evie, so I decided that he and I needed a date night.  He picked Pei Wei for dinner, then we went to Michael's, Target, and to get ice cream.  We ended the night coming home and watching the Opening Ceremonies and he fell asleep with me on the couch around 10:00.  We are loving the Olympics around here!

Saturday, Mason was invited to our neighbor's birthday party.  He had so much fun on this big water slide and playing with kids his age.  He told me he needs to find some friends here.

Afternoon Picnic

We decided to go pick up lunch at Firehouse and McDonald's and take it to the park for a picnic.  This park has a fun splash park area, playground, grassy areas, and a creek to play in.  It was a really fun afternoon!

We are trying to get into a new normal.  I love living here on the weekends because there is so much for us to do together, but I miss Shreveport and our friends during the week. It is lonely not having any other mom friends and kids to play with (especially since Erinn and Lindsey are off in the summer and we would be doing so much together).  We are slowly beginning to make some new friends (one friend I have met is from my hometown and she just moved to Denver too.  Small world!)  I am joining a Mom's Club in hopes to meet some people too.  I am looking forward to September when Mason starts school, MOPS will start and we will get into a good routine.  I signed Mason up for soccer too, so surely we will meet people through all of that!

We love the Denver Children's Museum.    There is plenty for both Mason and Evie to do.

Our little mess.  I was in the office for about 2 minutes and I hear Mason saying "no Evie."  I didn't think anything of it because I hear this about a million times a day.  Then Mason yells for me to come look at Evie, so I casually walk in there to see this!  I have NO idea how she managed to climb that chair!  I of course had to take a picture before I got her down.  :)  She has no fear when it comes to getting food!  haha!

Nothing else to do:  We can always go to Target!

Matthew had to go to Fort Worth for a few days for work, so we decided to get a ticket for Mason so he could go stay with Granna for a few days.  He was so excited to get to ride on the plane and I'm pretty sure Matthew loved having a little travel companion.

Granna took him swimming, to the movies, to get donuts, McDonald's, and donuts.  I know they had a great time together!

Evie and I went back to the museum.  They have a huge padded room where she can crawl and play as much as she wants.

This walker is Evie's favorite toy right now.  I'm not sure why Mason never had one, but she uses it all day long.  Her preferred way to use it is by walking on her knees!  She is fast!

Our Vail Getaway

Since Matthew was off of work the 4th, 5th, and 6th we decided last week to make a little trip to Vail.  It is so cool that we only live 1.5 hours from the mountains!  Vail was everything that I imagined it would be.  It was beautiful and the weather was perfect!
We left early Thursday morning and got there by 11:00.  We couldn't check into our hotel until four, so we just parked and started walking around the town.  Lionshead Circle is like a little Swiss village-cobblestone walkways, little shops, and restaurants.  Our first stop was lunch overlooking the mountains.  We then took the Gondola up to the top of the mountain.  The views were unbelievable, and makes me want to see it all snow-covered.  Let me just say that this whole trip was perfect for my outdoorsy little boy.  He loved every minute of it!  We got to the top of the mountain and took a little hike.  They had a Dino Dig for the kids too.  We spent about four hours just enjoying the outdoors.
We then came back down to check into our hotel.  We were pleasantly surprised to find they we were upgraded to a condo.  Then it was time for swimming.  After that, we went back to the room for baths and room service.
Friday morning, we walked around the village and decided to rent bikes.  This was my favorite part!  I hadn't ridden a bike in 20 years, so I was a little nervous, but I could still do it.  There was no way I was brave enough to pull the kids, so Matthew did that.  We realized that we are out of shape, but it was nice that we weren't sweating our butts off.  Where else can you ride bikes up and down hills wearing jeans in July?!  We also found a few sales at North Face and Patagonia and stocked up on some winter wear for Matthew and me.  A little rain storm came after lunch, so we all went back to the room for naps.  Later that afternoon, we went back and rented bikes again.  (I think we might invest in our own bikes in the future!)  We ate dinner and got ice cream and called it a day.
We got up and left Saturday after breakfast.  This was our first little vacation as a family of four and I loved every minute of it.  It was nice to not have plans or schedules and just do whatever we wanted.  Evie was such a good baby, just hanging in her stroller most of the time and sneaking in naps when she could.  Mason is so much fun and just loved having all of our attention.  I look forward to many more trips to the mountains!
