On Wednesday December 17, I decided to take the girls to Little Monkey Bizness to let them play. We always have MOPS on Wednesdays, but we had already finished the semester. Since we never have free days during the week, I thought I would take them somewhere fun. The place is filled with mats to play and crawl on, inflatable slides, bounce houses, and climbing structures. We had been playing for over and hour and I told Evie to go down the slide one more time and we would be leaving to go to Chickfila.
I was standing at the bottom watching her go down and Charlotte was in the ergo about to fall asleep. Evie waited her turn and for the girls in front of her to get off the bottom of the slide then she took off. Out of nowhere this little boy came and jumped up on the bottom of the slide to try to climb up and they bumped heads. I saw the boy crying, but Evie got up so I didn't think much of it. Once she got to me, I realized she was screaming and blood was everywhere! I hate mouth/nose bleed injuries because I am always afraid of what I saw next. Her tooth was pushed back into the roof of her mouth.
My first thought was to get her to the dentist, so I carry Evie and Charlotte over to my phone. I give Evie a wipe to hold up and it is soaked with blood within seconds. I get the dentist office and of course the dentist won't be in until 1:30 (this is all at 10:45). This is when I lose it and ask what I am supposed to do for three hours. They call me back in a couple of minutes and say they got ahold of Dr. Jenn and she will head up to office to meet me. I am glad we were at a place filled with moms because they helped me out so much. One mom took Charlotte so I could try to comfort a screaming-at the top of her lungs Evie. Another mom gave her lunch ice pack for Evie to hold on her mouth and another helped me put girls in carseats so we could leave.
I called Matthew when we were on our way and he met us at the dentist. We were about 20 minutes away, so by the time we got there Evie had calmed down. She never shed another tear once we were there. They did x-rays and Dr. Jenn said there was no way we could save her tooth. I let Matthew go back with her during the extraction. They gave her some laughing gas and a shot to numb her and it came right out. She loves telling this story now and always ends with "I was so so brave." Yes she was!
We got home and she slept a few hours and has been completely fine since then. She was really black and blue for a few days, but never seemed too sore from it. It has taken me awhile to get used to her new smile, but she can pull it off for the next three or so years.
We were told to watch the two teeth on either side, and luckily they are fine.
Puffy and numb lip. She said it felt like a marshmallow.

I can't believe how long that root is. Just goes to show how hard she was hit to knock that thing out. Fortunately, there was no damage to her permanent teeth.

such a sweet girl
I asked a friend to bring Mason home from school so that I wouldn't have to wake Evie up. I wasn't sure what he would say since he has been dying to lose his first tooth. I showed him the pictures and then he looked at her and just gave her the biggest hug. He said "Evie you are so pretty without your tooth!" He kept hugging and kissing her and asking if she was ok. Then he told her that she could borrow his tooth pillow since she didn't have one yet. I couldn't ask for sweeter kids!
The tooth fairy was unprepared to be coming on such short notice, so she left Evie a five dollar bill. That must be her price for the first tooth only! We also got a note from our elf, Jingle, and he said that he was leaving $5 for Mason too since he was so nice to share his pillow. :)
