Weekend "Getaway"

Matthew worked in Dallas last week Tuesday-Thursday, so Mason and I met him in Ennis on Thursday night. We are hoping that we don't have to go longer than 2 nights/3 days without seeing him each week.

Donna and I set our alarms for 4am to wake up and watch the Royal Wedding. I am a sucker for anything celebrity/royal and always love a good wedding, so even though it was early, I'm glad we got to watch it "live".

Fun fact: When Prince Charles married Diana 30 years ago, Donna was 7 months pregnant with Matthew and woke up early to watch it. Now, here I am 7 months pregnant watching William and Kate getting married with her. I wonder if I will be watching William and Kate's son getting married with my daughter or daughter in law in 30 years (and if they will be pregnant)?!?!

On Friday, Matthew went to work in the morning, so Caroline and I took Mason to the Fort Worth Zoo. I absolutely love the FW zoo. It is so clean, pretty, lots to see and do. Mason loved it almost as much as I did! My favorite part is when he saw the lions asleep he said, "their mama told them to LAY DOWN!" while using his pointer finger! I guess he hears that a lot! :)

Matthew met us at the zoo and then we went to ride on a miniature train. It is a 40 minute train ride through part of FW. I used to take the girls I nannied for, but this was Mason's first time. I knew he would love it!

We always start at the flamingos. Mason liked standing on one foot like them!

Feeding the birds. I thought he would be scared of them, but he loved it!
So excited to have Daddy meet us

ice cream!!
he was DIRTY after this!

We let him pick anything he wanted from the souvenir shop, and of course he found an orange monkey! (I told you he is obsessed with orange!)
Getting ready for the train to take off
You know this boy is tired if he lays in your lap. This NEVER happens!
Finding rocks with his new friend

After the train ride, Aunt CC took Mason back to Ennis and Matthew and I went to check into the Omni hotel in downtown FW. We got a couples massage that night and then went to Bob's Chop Shop and had the best meal ever- crab cakes, filet and potatoes, and bread pudding. On Saturday, we of course were both up at 7am, but ate breakfast in bed and watched a movie. We didn't get out of bed to start getting ready until 11:00. It was heaven! Then we went to PF Chang's for lunch, walked around downtown, and went to Barnes and Noble. We went back to our room and I took a nap while Matthew read. Then we went to Gloria's for some Mexican food and Paciugo's for dessert. If you can't tell the weekend was pretty much all about food! I figured I couldn't drink any wine, so I might as well eat whatever I want! We watched another movie in our room and then called it a night.

Before dinner at Bob's (ugh- can't figure out why it is blurry!)
the best gelato at Paciugo (good thing Shreveport doesn't have one of these or I would go everyday!)

Sunday morning we got up to drive to Irving to meet Donna and Mason at Caroline's race. She ran a half-marathon! She has been training since December, so this was a big deal. A cold front came in and it was in the 40's while we were waiting for her to cross the finish line. Luckily, we only had to wait about 20 minutes. Then it was off to lunch and then back on the road to Shreveport.

Here she comes!

WAY TO GO AUNT CC! WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!

It was a great weekend. I'm glad Matthew and I had some "down time" before all the craziness of a new baby and moving. Only 9 more weeks until the baby is here! :)
