Mason at 3 years old

Weight- 32 pounds (50%)
Height- 39 inches (90%)

Mason had a good check up. He was not happy about the doctor checking him though. He always is so happy in the waiting room and then as soon as the doctor comes in he immediately becomes shy and wants nothing to do with her. Poor thing had no idea what to expect with the shots either. This is the first time his vaccines were given to him in his arm. He was sitting there so big and then that first shot went in and he screamed "owwwww" and started crying. He had to have one more shot so he was not a happy camper! They gave him a coupon for a free scoop of ice cream though so all was right with the world again!

I went to sign us in and told him to find a seat.  I come back and he had grabbed a magazine and started reading

Waiting for the finger prick.  Still had no idea about the shots coming!

Ice cream makes everything better!

He is doing so much these days. I'm sure I will forget some things but here is what I can think of:

  • We still have a good sleeper. He goes to bed anywhere from 8-9:00 and sleeps until 7 or 7:30. As long as we get out of the house and do something in the morning, he still takes 2-3 hour naps. If we just spend the morning at home and I don't wear him out, then he usually just plays in his bed without going to sleep. Luckily he will not get out of his bed, so even if he doesn't nap we still get a little break. School has been wearing him out. He won't sleep there so when he gets home he goes down around 2:00 and we usually have to wake him up around 5:00 so that he will go to sleep at night. Lovey is still a must when sleeping!
  • Potty training hasn't been going very well. He will go at home if we remind him, but won't go anywhere in public. He hasn't pooped on the potty yet either. I've been sending him to school in pull ups but he won't go there either. Our doctor said not to worry about it, that he will get it when he is ready. I'm planning on giving him another few weeks and then trying the 3 day bootcamp again.
  • He wears 3T and 4T shirts and 2T shorts. Size 8 shoe
  • He eats pretty good. He goes through spurts of eating practically nothing and then will go days eating everything in sight. His favorites are chicken nuggets, corn dogs, tomato soup, cheese pizza, green beans, baked beans, yogurt, grapes, strawberries, oranges, bean burritos, chips and salsa, pb&j sandwiches and of course ice cream.
  • He knows all letters capital and lower case as well as the sounds they make.
  • He can count to 20 (sometimes he still skips 13)
  • He loves to "read" and "spell". He recognizes places and signs and will tell me what they say. He will take a book and spell out all the letters in the title then say "book". We have some books that we will read words like c-a-t spells cat. I know he is just memorizing, but that is how we all begin to read!
  • We've started doing some rhyming and learning left and right. He told me the other day after I turned in the car that I turned "left" and he was right. It was a 50/50 shot, but still, he is paying attention when I tell him which direction we are going.
  • He jumps on everything! He has no fear and will fall right on his face and not cry. He is covered in bruises and scrapes and half the time I have no idea where he got them because he doesn't cry when he falls.
  • He loves to dance and loves music. He will tell me who sings a song after hearing only the first beat.
  • He loves to play outside, especially with his daddy. His playhouse is still a hit!
  • He loves the Ipad and Iphone and can work it better than I can.
  • Some favorite shows right now: Curious George, Toy Story (1,2 and 3), Word World, Super Why, Calliou
  • He has gotten into matchbox cars and loves to drive them all over the house. We got him a racetrack for his birthday and he loves it!
  • He has very good manners. He always says please and thank you without us having to tell him. He also reminds us to pray before dinner if we ever forget.  His new thing is holding up his drink and saying "cheers" while clinking our glasses.
  • He has done so well this year with changes. He didn't cry moving up classes at church, MOPS or school.
  • He is usually such a happy kid. He still has his fits every now and then, but he truly is a joy to be around. He has become a good errand runner and little side kick.
  • He asks hundreds of questions a day. You can just see his little head turning and trying to figure things out!
  • He is the sweetest big brother. If Evie is crying he will run over to her and rub her head, tell her "shhh its okay Evie" and give her her passy. Sometimes when she cries, he tells me that she is being too loud! He is very protective of her and if anyone he doesn't know comes near her, he stands right next to her making sure she is okay. He always wants to know where she is.
  • He has a little OCD when it comes to his routines. He still prefers Daddy to bathe him and put him to bed. We end every night with a kiss and hug, then the handshake: fist bump, high five, thumbs up, guns up.
Lindsey reminded me of a Mason story that I should have put on the Mason-ism post.  He does the sign for "I love you" a lot.  One day he did it to Matthew and said "I love you" and then Matthew did the sign along with the number 2, and said "I love you too"  Well Mason then does the sign, and holds up his two pointer fingers side by side, and says "I love you eleven"!  We thought that was the cutest thing!

Okay this has gotten way longer than I intended it to. He is such a sweet, caring little boy and we love him so much! I can't wait to see how much he learns and grows this year.
