Evie's Hospital Stay

We have had quite a week around here.  Last Monday night, Evie started having a cough and a low grade fever.  By Tuesday afternoon it was bad enough that I felt I needed to take her to the doctor.  She was just feeling crummy and not eating, as well as the cough and runny nose.  She was diagnosed with bronchiolitis that day and was tested for RSV.  The results would take 48 hours to come in, so after a breathing treatment, chest xray (aka the torture chamber!), and prescriptions for an inhaler and steroids we were sent home.  She slept in my room that night and was up every hour or so coughing and crying.  Matthew decided to come home on Wednesday to help out and I am so glad he did.  By Thursday, she wasn't eating, was having trouble breathing and only had one wet diaper that whole day.  I took her back in on Thursday afternoon and the RSV results were positive.  Since she was obviously dehydrated and the steroids weren't helping, we were admitted to the hospital.  Of course I was upset, but I knew that there was a chance of this and I had even packed a back before I left just in case.  Donna left as soon as Matthew called her and got to town around 8 that night.  I stayed at the hospital with Evie during the nights, so that Matthew and Donna could be home with Mason.  Mason didn't seem to be phased about his sister being sick at all.  I think he loved having Granna with him!
So after 3 nights in the hospital we are home.  She will still be contagious for the next week or so, but she is starting to eat again and is acting a little more like herself.  We go for another check up on Wednesday.  I hate seeing my baby girl so sick, but I am glad that we were in the hospital so that she could be monitored and start to get well.  I'm looking forward to a (hopefully) restful week at home and hope she is back to herself by Christmas!

Poor sick baby the night before we were in hospital

They took her in a separate room to insert  the IV because they said it would be better if I didn't see it.   Her poor arm looks like she had a cast to keep it on.

sleeping in the hospital crib in her way too big gown.  She only did this for about 10 minutes and then had to sleep with me the rest of the night.

this was around 3am.  I didn't get much sleep, but she was comfortable in my arms

She took up most of my bed!

getting her oxygen levels checked

daddy trying to get some fluids down her

sponge bath

finally got some clothes that would fit over her IV

She had breathing treatments every 6 hours

She had to be put on oxygen for a little while.

she looks so little here.  Hate seeing her hooked up to tubes!

feeling better and IV/oxygen free!  Let's go home!
