Mason at 2 years old

I know this is a little late, but we just went for his 2 year well visit last week. He was terrified of the scale though, so the nurse couldn't get his weight or height. They went by the last time we were there which was a month or so ago. According to that he is in the 50% for weight and 90% in height. He is a long and lean little boy! Here is some things about Mason at 2:

  • He is still a great sleeper. He will go to bed around 8:30 and sleep until around 8. He takes a 2-3 hour nap every day. He still sleeps with his lovey and couldn't sleep without it.
  • He is a better eater. He is now willing to at least try most things, doesn't mean he will eat it, but I am just happy that he will try!
  • Size 4 diaper
  • He wears mostly 3T shirts (some 2T), but he is still in 18 month shorts! I just bought him some 2T jeans, so I think he will wear that in the fall
  • He knows all of the capital letters and some lower case
  • He can count to five if we do it with our fingers. He still doesn't recognize the numbers when he sees them written, but we are working on it
  • He knows all his colors and shapes
  • He loves to jump and climb on everything. He is all boy! His favorite toys right now are his cars, blocks, balls and anything and everything outside.
  • He has starting losing interest in Elmo. His new favorite is Mickey, pronounced "MeeKee" He hasn't carried his stuffed Elmo around for weeks and now he only asks to watch Mickey.
  • He has been saying "oh wow" forever which has always meant "yes" but just recently has started saying "oh kay" in a long drawn out accent. It is pretty funny!
  • He also is now saying "no way" when he doesn't want to do something. It is pretty funny right now, but I know I need to correct him to say "no thank you"
  • He is getting very good at saying "please" and "thank you" at the right times without any prompting. It melts my heart to hear him say "thank you mommy" after I do something for him or "please" when he wants something.
  • He probably says 20 new words daily. There are words he will say that I had no idea he knew. He remembers everything too. Such a sponge!
  • He has always been a mommy's boy, but the last 2 months he has turned into a daddy's boy. He is fine with me during the day, but he starts asking for daddy at about 5pm (funny how he can sense it's almost time for him to be home) and he is ALL about dad in the evenings! He wants daddy to play with him, feed him, bathe him, and put him to bed. It kind of hurt my feelings at first, but I LOVE watching Matthew and him together. They have the best relationship and I know how lucky Mason is to have a daddy like Matthew.
  • He is starting to go through separation anxiety. He has moved up classes at church, MOPS and at school, so he is still adjusting. He didn't cry on Thursday when I dropped him off at school, so I am hoping it will stay that way. Even though I know he is fine, it tears at my heart to hear him sobbing for me.
  • He is getting easier to take out to eat. We used to wonder why we even tried to take him places because we ate our food so fast and had to constantly keep him entertained with food or toys. We still eat pretty fast, but since he is a better eater, he will eat his food and talk to us more.
  • He is usually a pretty happy boy, but man oh man can he act like a 2 year old! He has been testing us for awhile and has been in time out several times. He understands time out and does not like it. We keep him there for 2 minutes and go talk to him. He gives us a hug and kiss and all is right with the world again! (until the next time he is told no!)
  • He loves ice cream. I think he says this word 50 times a day. One of our favorite things to do with him is go on date nights, where we go out to eat and then go to Marble Slab. Matthew and I each get ice cream and Mason sits on the table in between us and his mouth stays open like a baby bird waiting to be fed.
  • This kid loves loves loves to "fist bump". I probably get fist bumped 100 times a day. He will fist bump people, animals, books, cars, the tv, anything and everything. I really think this is like his term of endearment. The first thing he does when I go get him out of his crib in the morning is fist bump me and it is the last thing he does before he goes to sleep. I've even seen him on the video monitor fist bumping his lovey.
We love our little 2 year old so much!

  2. I love the whole "fist bump" thing - cracks me up! That's too funny - him giving you a fist bump first thing when he sees you and right before bed! Yes, definitely all boy! =) Great photos, Lez, as usual!!!
